On October 29th, 6 Barbary macaques were confiscated at the border between Hungaray and Serbia (on its way to Serbia).
It is known in which country the macaques were ‘purchaised’ but it is very likely that this country was not the origin of the macaques.
The macaques are taken to a rescue center. We will keep you informed if we find out more.
On Sunday the 21st MPC attended the Zoo Wild Festival in Rotterdam Zoo (Blijdorp) with a stand. Volunteers Kris, Manon and Judy and also Els had prepared for this day, and that resulted in a funky stand where people could either get informed about our work, buy merchandise, where kids could colour, and watch a short movie. Very multi functional. This was also the first day that MPC used their new logo and branding in public and the reactions from the visitors were very positive!
MPC created a set of 4 cool Barbary macaque postcards, also for this purpose. If you would like to order one or more sets please visit http://mpcfoundation.nl/store/ and email us with your order at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Kristina (MPC UK) and Emma, her friend and supporter of MPC climbed the 4167 m high Toubkal Mountain in the High Atlas mountains in Morocco last week to raise awareness and funds for MPC (UK) to save the Barbary macaques. Thy raised more than £700!!
Barbary macaques can also be found in the High Atlas in very small populations not too far from the Toubkal mountain.
MPC is very proud of this amazing achievement! Thank you ladies, you are superstars! And also a big thank you to the people who supported this climb financially!
